🌺Today is May Day

Friday marks Protomagia (May 1st) — a public holiday rooted in both spring celebrations and workers’ rights, recognised across Cyprus and much of Europe. For many, it means flower wreaths on doors, family outings, village trips, and that unofficial feeling that summer is getting closer.

It’s one of those holidays that blends two worlds perfectly: old tradition and modern escape. A day to slow down, head outside, and enjoy Cyprus when it starts looking its best.

💧 Will Cyprus Face Water Cuts This Summer?

Farmers are sounding the alarm over reduced irrigation water, warning the new proposals could devastate crops and leave many unable to survive the season. For them, this isn’t about inconvenience — it’s about income, harvests, and whether some farms make it through summer at all.

The wider picture is more mixed than people think. Cyprus’ reservoirs have recovered sharply from winter lows and now sit at roughly 39% full (around 113 million cubic metres) — far better than the crisis levels seen earlier this year. But officials still warn that one good spring doesn’t erase years of drought, especially with summer demand about to surge.

In other words: things are better… but not comfortable. And what starts with farmers often has a way of reaching everyone else later.

🏎️ Classic Car Festival

Larnaca’s seafront is getting a serious dose of nostalgia next Sunday, as the Classic Car Festival takes over Europe Square (the fountain area at Finikoudes) from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Expect vintage motors, polished classics, live music, and plenty of people stopping for “just one quick look” that turns into an hour.
