🚒 Why Larnaca Villagers Are About To Hear Sirens This Month

Cyprus' Civil Defence will run evacuation drills across every district this May, including Larnaca, ahead of the wildfire season. The drills will rehearse how residents and emergency services move when a fire breaks out — coordinating police, fire, local councils, and the people in the path of it. Larnaca and Limassol have already had their evacuation plans formally reviewed; the Larnaca district drills are the test run.
This isn't theoretical. Last summer's wildfires in Limassol killed an elderly couple who fled their village in the wrong direction — and the new plans are a direct response. If you live in a hill village (think Lefkara, Vavla, Kalavasos, Kornos), keep an eye out for the announced drill date in your community and treat it like the real thing. Knowing the right exit route is the kind of thing you only need once.
🏛️ Mayor Vyras Just Listed Every Question The Government Won't Answer

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras has gone public with a list of "reasonable questions" the government still hasn't answered about the port-and-marina project — and they're surprisingly basic. Are there complete construction plans? Have wave studies been done? What about electricity, water, and internet infrastructure? And critically: if GrowthFund comes back with recommendations that don't include the urban development Larnaca has been asking for, will the city's voice just be ignored?
This is now the third week running that the marina has been front-page news. After the rally, after Minister Vafeades' "separate but parallel" defence, this is Vyras saying: fine, defend it — just answer the questions first. With a corrected GrowthFund study reportedly expected this month and a full masterplan due by early June, the next 30 days will tell us whether "separate but parallel" turns out to be a real plan or a holding statement.
⛽ Larnaca's Biggest Fuel Company Just Bumped The Dividend Again

Petrolina (Holdings), headquartered right here in Larnaca, has just confirmed its 2025 results — and they were good enough to push the board to propose a final dividend of 2.0 cents per share (5.88%), on top of two interim dividends already paid in November and December. Group profit jumped to €8.3 million, with the company operating 95 fuel stations across Cyprus. The annual general meeting is set for 18 June 2026 at the company's Larnaca headquarters.
Petrolina is one of those Larnaca-anchored businesses that doesn't always make the headlines — but its books matter. A strong year here means stable employment, reinvestment, and a Larnaca-based corporate brand staying healthy in a year when most fuel companies have had a turbulent ride. Worth a quiet nod.
